New York City (February 9, 2018) – Empire State Realty Trust, Inc. (NYSE: ESRT) today announced that the Empire State Building will host its annual celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year with a dynamic, celebratory lighting of its world-famous tower lights and its annual Spring Festival window exhibition in its Fifth Avenue lobby windows.

At 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, Ambassador Zhang Qiyue, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in New York, will participate in a lighting ceremony at the Empire State Building in honor of the Year of the Dog. John B. Kessler, President and Chief Operating Officer of ESRT, will provide opening remarks and lead the countdown to ceremoniously light the World’s Most Famous Building.  That night the Empire State Building’s renowned tower lights will display a dynamic light show designed by Fantastic Art China and China Central Academy of Fine Arts. The lights will shine in red, yellow, blue and white to emulate the Lunar New Year fireworks display that will take place over the Hudson River the following night.

“Every year we look forward to celebrating Chinese Lunar New Year with a magnificent light show and window display,” says John  Kessler. "The year of the dog is symbolic of loyalty and auspiciousness, and the Empire State Building sends our most sincere wishes to our Chinese visitors to have a year filled with both.”

The Empire State Building will also commemorate Lunar New Year with a Fifth Avenue lobby window display in the theme of “The Intelligent Dog Brings Prosperity for the New Year.” The display, designed by China Arts and Entertainment Group, features four scenes in which the dog jumps out from the Chinese painting “The Ten Hunting Dogs of the Kangxi” and is represented alongside plum blossoms and magpies, which signify happiness and good luck. Classical forms of Chinese art, including paper-cutting, calligraphy and woodblock print are included in the exhibit.

Additionally, Chinese visitors who stop by the Empire State Building’s information desk from February 13th through February 21st  will receive a limited edition commemorative certificate and a hang bao with a free gift from Macy’s and local retailer B&H.
